African Three peaks · 25 January 2019

Every year, 4.3 million girls undergo FGM/C, mostly in Africa and Asia. This human rights violation has now been identified as the fourth leading cause of death in Africa, and Orchid Project is working at the forefront of the global movement to end it.

Story

From January 25th until February 17th, a five-strong team of property professionals from Adventure in Architecture (Jon Beswick and Joe Mills), Ashfords LLP (Paul Olliff) and Rider Levett Bucknall (Jon Lloyd and Russell Brooks) will be attempting to scale the three highest African mountain peaks, in three weeks, raising funds for LandAid & Orchid Project.

Orchid Project is set out to educate and raise awareness about the dangers of Female Genital Cutting.

The team, consisting of architects, a solicitor and a project manager and surveyor, will climb Mt Stanley, Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro back-to-back, attempting each climb in under a week (taking the most direct route) and flying between countries after each climb….something only successfully achieved once before.

Jon Beswick, Managing Director of Adventure in Architecture said “Every year we take a small group of clients and property professionals on an expedition to team build and raise money for LandAid. The last few years we've summited Elbrus and attended a dinner party on Everest. This will be the toughest yet!“

Paul Olliff, Legal Director at Ashfords LLP said: "It's great to be a part of such an unusual, technical and challenging expedition, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for a fantastic cause."
