My sister and I are organising a charity football event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Cancer is one of those things that I'd heard a lot about as a life-threatening disease, but never actually properly understood. Macmillan helped me learn more about Hodgkin's Lymphoma and understand my illness better. While I was undergoing chemotherapy I attended exercise classes organised by Macmillan. The Macmillan lymphoma exercise sessions were fantastic for me since it gave a level of structure to my week, enabled me to meet other people, and most importantly keep fit which in turn allowed me to cope with the doses of chemotherapy much better and minimised the daunting side-effects.
These are just a few examples of the numerous ways in which Macmillan provides both emotional and financial support to cancer patients and their families both during and after treatment.
I’ve chosen to do a football tournament since football has always been a huge passion. I’m a big Arsenal fan as you can probably tell from the picture above and playing and watching football always provided me with a form of escapism from everything else that was going on in my life while I underwent chemotherapy. Being back playing football has been one of the best feelings and Macmillan’s exercise sessions have enabled me to keep fit and quickly return to playing football post chemo.
We want to contribute to Macmillan Cancer Support to help them continue their wonderful work in support of those suffering from cancer and their family and friends. They fulfil a vital role in ensuring that when cancer strikes there will always be someone out there who knows how you feel, is able to help you feel that you are not alone and to provide advice and support at such a difficult time.
Any donations that you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated! Lots of love and thank you for your support,
Advik
