Story
Who am I?
My name is Aggie Kwiecień and I am a local resident of Blackburn, who loves the towpaths of Leeds and Liverpool Canal. I use them to walk to work, cycle, run and reflect.
Last year I had an unfortunate accident while running on the towpath near the Whitebirk Railway Bridge - I slipped and fell in, trying to bypass a large puddle. This made me realise just how important it is to maintain our towpaths and look after them, especially if they're as popular with walkers, runners and cyclists as the stretch that runs alongside Blackburn. We all use it for Sunday walks with children to feed the ducks or walks with the pooches.
My plan
The day I fell in I decided that I have to make a difference. I want to walk and run the distance of 500 kilometers (around 310 miles) within the next 6 months to help raise money for Canal and River Trust and help keep our favourite walking spots in good nick.
What does Canal and River Trust do?
The Canal & River Trust look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways, to make life better for millions of people. Our canals and rivers need help every single day to make sure that they remain open and accessible.
You can help too!
I would be extremely grateful for even the smallest donation, if you can. It's important to spread the word - please share my page on your social media pages and let your friends, family and co-workers know about my initiative - it would mean the world to me.
Don't be a stranger, come and say hello - while maintaining the Covid-19 safety regulations and social distancing, of course - if you see me around Asda, Whitebirk, Mill Hill, Feniscowles, Rishton, Accrington....I do love me a long walk ;)
Thank you for helping me make the Blackburn towpaths a safer place for everyone.
