Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In these very trying times a lot has been said about the fantastic services provided by the NHS.

There are also a lot of health care professionals out there that provide amazing services who deserve recognition.

Marie Curie provides end of life care to patients who are terminally ill in their own homes.

Most of us have been directly affected in some way by cancer and other terminal illnesses such as Motor Neuron Disease. Personally, my Aunt died of cancer only a few years after retiring as an Accident and Emergency nurse in the NHS.

My Mum is also a nurse for Marie Curie. Growing up and hearing her stories of how a patient died with her the previous night was just the norm as a child. It was only as I got older that I realised quite what a difficult job she and all other Marie Curie nurses have.

Mum has always been there for her own (at times difficult!) family whilst offering support to thousands of people, patients and their families over her career. From what I hear, she is a fantastic nurse, just like all of her equally amazing colleagues.

So I thought I'd do something small to try and help. I dug out my old road bike which has been sadly neglected for the past few years and I decided that I would cycle 1,000 miles in the month of May.

That averages out at roughly 33 miles per day. Currently I'm lucky if I can ride 10 miles!

I will provide updates on every ride I complete through Strava and I welcome suggestions for places to visit and picture on my rides around London in accordance with government advice.

For example day 1 I plan to include a picture outside St George's Hospital, Tooting where my Aunt worked for many years.

Every single donation will be greatly appreciated and help motivate me to get out there (whatever the weather!) and reach my personal goal of £1 per mile. Thank you!

Rob
