Story

I run to put life into my days and hopefully to add days to my life.

Inspired by both my Mum and Dad I run 20-30 miles each week and having run a virtual marathon with my Mum, albeit slightly spontaneously during lockdown, the day before my son's first birthday (he'll be 3 when I run the Snowdonia) I really want to run THIS race in particular.

Why such a hard marathon I hear some of you ask?

I was there in 1998 to cheer on my Dad when he ran it and the year when we got to the start only for it to be cancelled for him due to the storm and floods (2003).  It is my Dad's favourite marathon, the one he talks about first when speaking of being a Marathon Runner.  I have memories of my Dad running it when I was a child and now it's time to make more family memories and to inspire my own 'next generation' as Sebastian will be at the finish line, just as I always was for my Dad.

Some of you will know exactly why I want to do this now and I am just so grateful to have secured a place with a charity about making memories.  As many of you know I'd rather buy a gift which creates a memory, than a material thing. I am all for spending time with loved ones and I always cherish every moment so this charity has instantly filled me with passion to run this marathon to raise money for them.

I'll be cherishing every moment of training for the Snowdonia, with my Dad with me every step of the way.  I'll be running this for us both. My wonderful Mum has also promised to be my training running buddy. I know there will be highs and some lows too and I am grateful and over the moon that she'll be by my side.

I am sure it'll be gruelling and my biggest running challenge... Maybe even the biggest challenge of my life but I honestly can't wait!

The 4 Cancer Group organises days out and short breaks for families affected by cancer. This is what we call "respite". Our respite trips have been creating memories for families affected by cancer since 2001. From sailing days to short breaks at UK holiday parks, we give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times. We believe that ‘time’ is our most precious commodity. Time spent with the people we love, away from the stresses of everyday life at home, can make all the difference. We bring families together in wonderful locations and enable them to create memories which last a lifetime.
