Story
Hello all / Salaam Alaikum (peace be upon you all)
Every week in the UK, 12 apparently fit and healthy young people aged 35 and under die from undiagnosed cardiac conditions. One of these might be an undiagnosed aortic disease, which are among the top 10 causes of death in men in the developed world and cause 5,000 deaths per year in the UK.
The sudden loss of a young person is tragic, devastating and debilitatingly painful for those left behind. Almost two years ago, one of those young people was my husband and best friend, Aqeel Hasan Noorali, who died suddenly of an aortic dissection aged just 33.
This October will mark 10 years since I met Aqeel and since his wonderful soul came into my life. To mark the occasion, I’m dusting off my running shoes and taking part in a 10k - one kilometre for each year Aqeel has brought light into my life. I’m raising funds for the Aortic Centre Trust, a charity that works to raise awareness of aortic diseases in the general public, support research into new treatments and improved early detection of aortic diseases, and promote the training of specialists in the management of aortic diseases. Learn more about them here: https://www.aorticcentretrust.co.uk
I would really appreciate any support you can give for this vital cause in honour of our most important organ, the aorta, and in memory of my wonderful soulmate, Aqeel.
Thank you all!
