ING New York Marathon 2011 · 6 November 2011 ·

Protimos works with marginalised communities in emerging economies to use the law to protect their social, economic and environmental interests. We enable communities to assert their legal rights to their land and resources, making them active participants in their own futures.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have been collecting donations for a very worthy cause. Protimos is a charity established by Fiona Darroch, a good friend of mine who recently invited me to be a trustee. Click on the link to read the full story on Protimos which provides funding to train lawyers to assist marginalised communities (in Africa) to assert their rights when otherwise they would be exploited.

On Sunday 6 November 2011, I ran my first marathon in New York in a little over 3 hours and 54 minutes. I was nervous: the road there had not been easy; I was attempting to run a little over 6 miles further than I had ever run before, and it was only very recently that I had run 20 miles...  I had expected a great physical test after mile 20 but, having taken advice to take the "first half" easy, the last 6.2 miles was painless. In retrospect, I should have sought sponsorship for giving up drinking for 12 weeks, which was far more difficult.

We have raised a great deal of money and I am overwhelmed by your support. Thank you.
