Calvin was born on 25th September 2016. Sadly, he had several health issues and spent many months in Intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary. At times his mummy Whitley was able to stay at Eckerslie House, the parents accommodation on site - meaning that she could spend all her time with him and be with him very quickly when the nurses called. Calvin was a beautiful, gorgeous boy, and was very, very loved by many people, but especially by his mummy and daddy Whitley and Josh. Calvin died on 10th July 2017.
I am fundraising for The Sick Children's Trust which run Eckerslie House. They believe every family with a seriously ill child in hospital should be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment.
Every day, children are diagnosed with serious and life-threatening illnesses or have accidents that leave them fighting for life. They often have to be transferred to specialist hospitals far from home to receive critical medical treatment. Life for their whole family is suddenly thrown into complete turmoil.
The Sick Children's Trust believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. They provide ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. Whilst staying at one of the homes is free of charge, its costs around £28 to provide a bedroom for one night. The trust rely entirely on voluntary income to meet this cost.
They currently have ten houses offering clean, comfortable accommodation where the whole family can stay close to their sick child’s bedside.
