Aida's run for Cancer Research UK

Virgin Money London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running a marathon for Cancer Research UK, specifically to fund brain tumour research.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
Currently, brain tumours receive less than 1% of the funding into cancer research. This is because brain tumours are not as common as other types of cancers, however, they carry a far worse prognosis. In the past 10 years, there has been no change in the life expectancy of glioblastoma patients and today, in the United Kingdom, someone affected by glioblastoma has a prognosis of approximately 12 months from the time of diagnosis. The majority of this time will be spent with progressively worsening quality of life. Researchers aim to find vaccines and chemotherapies that could kill brain cancer cells and prevent recurrence.
Less than 20% of brain tumour patients survive beyond 5 years, due to a high recurrence rate, while 87% of brast cancer patients hit this milestone. This is thanks to research.
