Walk for Welcome · 12 June 2021 to 13 June 2021 ·
Aidan (5 years) and Juniper (2 years) and their mum and dad want to raise money to welcome those fleeing war and persecution, including young children like them!
They are going to walk an amazing 5km in order to raise funds for Upbeat Communities, a charity that their dad has the privilege of leading.
Aidan's message for refugee children " I AM SORRY YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY. THIS IS A VERY NICE COUNTRY, PLEASE DON'T BE SHY OF IT "
The walk will be around the city of Derby where they live, and will end with a delicious ice cream as a reward for their efforts!
Please encourage Aidan and Juniper in their Walk for Welcome - any amount you can give would be gratefully received!
Here's some more information about why they are doing it:
Many of our refugee and asylum seeker friends have had to flee violence, war or persecution in their home country to find safety for themselves or their family. For some, the journey involved thousands of miles travelling on foot, often with children in tow, through deserts and mountain ranges, crossing rivers and borders, walking in darkness, sunshine and rain. They have carried only what they can fit on their backs or in suitcases. They have endured unimaginable hardship, pain and fear. Upbeat Communities invites you to take part in our Walk for Welcome and raise money to help us support our friends, many of whom have walked through several countries in search of safety.
