Biomedical research into M.E.is seriously underfunded. We need to do more if we are to learn how and why this cruel illness starts - how to test for it or treat it, or better still, how to cure it.

Story

On Sunday 3rd September I will be running The Big Half alongside Con, Conor and Alex.

We will be running to raise funds and awareness for the ME Association’s Research Fund.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is a life changing and debilitating condition that is massively under researched and lacking in public awareness. ME is a complex and misunderstood neurological condition that affects millions of people worldwide. At present there is no cure and there is little to no medical support for those most severely affected.

I first became aware of ME when my sister's partner, Row, was diagnosed in late 2021. Her condition has since worsened and became particularly severe in early 2022. Row has been entirely bed bound, requiring full time care, for the last 18 months.

Further research is needed to help in understanding ME and is vital in identifying causes and developing effective treatment.

We are using this half marathon as an opportunity to raise funds that will contribute to further research as well as an opportunity to raise awareness and hopefully make a small difference for those living with ME.

Any contribution would be massively appreciated, if you aren’t in a position to donate then please share our page as this can only help in raising awareness.

Thanks for your support,

Aidan, Con, Conor and Alex

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
