It's my birthday today.
It’s also the one year anniversary of the first national lockdown.
I am raising money for the charity The Eve Appeal, chosen by my mum, who research and raise awareness into the five gynae cancers, as well as leading a research clinic for BRCA1 and BRCA2 (which my mum has, and I had a 50% chance of inheriting).
Friends of mine have been living with the news of devastating cancer since the beginning of lockdown, and it has been at the forefront of my mind as a result. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a drastic effect on those suffering (and those yet to be diagnosed) with cancer through interruption, delays, diagnosis, and treatment as well as follow-up and palliative care - and that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface with the huge impact that lockdown has had on mental health and the way that we are able to live our lives.
I have also chopped half of my hair off and donated it to The Little Princess Trust. It's extremely wonky, but that's fine. If that doesn't deserve a donation, then I don't know what does!
Times are financially tight at the moment for some, but I’d be really grateful if you could donate anything you could spare.
1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.
