Story

In January last year my mum was diagnosed with stage 3 endometrial cancer. My life as I knew it changed in that split second. I always knew my mum was a fighter, she was independent, so strong and I knew she wouldn't give up no matter how tough things got.

In the December, mum became increasingly unwell and had to go to Hull Royal for an emergency operation to try and fix some things. Unfortunately, having this operation meant that mum's cancer treatment had to stop and on the 12th of December my world fell apart when we were told that mum had 3 weeks left. Never did I think I would be left so early in this world, without my listening ear, my helping hand, my guidance, my best friend, my mum!

From that moment, mum always new the time would come when she would have to leave home and go to St Andrew's Hospice. There was never any pressure for this and it was when she was ready for that move. When that day came St Andrew's were amazing! All mum ever wanted was to be treated with dignity and respect and that's exactly what she got. On the worst day, the nurses also stayed with mum right until those very last moments.

St Andrew's support not just the patients in their care but the families too. The support and respect we received as family, were second to none. I know the hospice help so many people and support so many families so I wanted to try and give something back and raise money for the charity. On the 24th September I will be walk 5km in memory of mum, to raise as much money as I can so St Andrew's can continue the amazing work they do!

Your help matters. St Andrews Hospice is a registered charity providing hospice care services for adults, children and their families who are adjusting to a life living with life-limiting conditions, up to their death and into family bereavement support. I know times are hard and everyone is feeling the pinch but if anyone can spare just £1, I know it would be greatly appreciated. I want to do this for the hospice but I also want to do it for mum as I know she would be proud.

Thank you for your time and if you have any questions, please let me know.
