Story

A small team of us from Tesco Havant, accompanied by friends and partners, are going to take on the National 3 Peak Challenge to fundraise money for SADS uk. Last year we were given the tragic news that one of our own, Steve Williams, passed away in the night. We now know that this was due to the rare condition, Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS). Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes (SADS) are genetic heart conditions that can cause sudden death in young, apparently healthy, people. These conditions can be treated and deaths can be prevented. This rare condition effects roughly 500 people in the UK each year. The cardiac charity SADS UK aims to save lives, providing information, funding research and medical equipment to prevent premature sudden cardiac death. Working in the areas of Research, Prevention and Emergency Care lives have been saved as a direct result of the work of SADS UK. SADS UK holds the Annual National Lifesaver Awards to honour people who have saved lives in the community using CPR and the defibrillator. It is our goal to use the incredible community of Tesco to fundraise and make a donation in honour of Steve Williams, who dedicated his life to Tesco for 27 years. Steve was always full of enthusiasm and had a wealth of knowledge that he was happy to share with anyone. Along with his partner Monika, Steve enjoyed walks and hikes amongst other hobbies. This is why the National Three Peaks challange is a fitting fundraiser to honour him. What is the actual challange? The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - The total driving distance is 462 miles.
