Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This summer I will be cycling from London to Paris for Princess Alice Hospice. Princess Alice Hospice is a charity care home with a team of specialists dedicated to giving expert end of life care and wellbeing to over 800 patients at any given time. Hospices make 75% of their income themselves through fundraisers like this cycle to Paris - only 25% comes from the NHS. The aim of the Hospice is to provide comfort, familiarity, and compassionate end of life care..
I learnt about this charity as someone very close to me was a patient at the Hospice in December 2018. My godfather’s wife, Stephie, (pictured beside me in the photo) was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years back, which was treated and went away. Unfortunately, the cancer came back 2 years ago, this time as a lump in her neck, which was incurable. There are many forms of cancer, but at root it is a pervasive illness which has major impacts across the globe. In the UK alone, cancer accounts for more than a quarter of all deaths each year, with roughly 450 people dying from cancer each day.
Stephie was an immensely kind, thoughtful, friendly person who always saw the positives no matter the situation. Near her death, when pain in her feet made it difficult to walk, she cycled because she was determined to carry on doing activities she enjoyed and not let the cancer dominate and take over her life.
Stephie was half French and (as you can guess) loved cycling, so taking part in this cycle ride to Paris alongside my godfather is an amazing way to remember her, and support him. It is also great to be able to raise money for the Hospice that cared for her, and cares for so many other people, with understanding and compassion at the end of her life.
Thank you in advance for any donations made, I really appreciate it.
