Bright Northumbria is the charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, providing support to the trust's hospitals and community health services provided across North Tyneside and Northumberland. The charity undertakes a wide range of initiatives that make a difference to our patients, staff and volunteers.

Over the last twenty years, Bright has established a close collaboration with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), Tanzania. I have been leading the team involved in helping improve the Trauma and Orthopaedic services in KCMC. Amongst various initiatives, we wish to help them provide timely care to their severely injured who sometimes end up waiting days to weeks for their surgery, sometimes with long-lasting consequences to their ability to work and function in day-to-day life. Our goal is to improve the care of 100 patients with significant injuries by providing expedient surgery within 48 hours. We believe that this would benefit at least 100 families and their extended families and make a significant difference.
