AJR Management's 'UK in a Day' to raise money for Crohn's & Colitis UK!
This year AJR Management’s Christmas Charity Day will be in support of Crohn’s & Colitis UK. We ask that you join with us this year and support and recognise the work of this worthwhile charity.
On 9th December 2016 the staff at AJR Management will be cycling a distance equivalent to Land’s End to John o’Groats – a total of 847 miles in an assortment of pyjama’s/Christmas jumpers on exercise bikes! It would be greatly appreciated if you would sponsor us for this mammoth challenge, but also, that you join with us and raise awareness of Crohn’s and Colitis UK in those people around you! We ask that on 9th December you also wear your pyjamas/Christmas jumpers as you go about your daily routine and inform people of the reason why.
If you want to send us pictures of you in your pyjamas/Christmas jumpers we’ll get them added to our rogues gallery for everyone to see!
We’re aiming to raise as much money as we can for Crohn’s & Colitis UK so please ‘dig deep’ - anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated!
Between 24 members of staff, we will be cycling 847 miles in a day – the equivalent of just over 35 miles each!
Throughout the day we will keep you updated as to our progress on our Facebook page for the event, so you’ll be able to see some pictures of us struggling through the day.
None of us are professional athletes, so Friday 9th December will be a day of blood, sweat and tears for AJR Management. However we believe this is for a very worthwhile charity so is worth the saddle-sore weekend we’ll be facing afterwards.
Please sponsor us as much as you are able to to help us reach our £5,000 target for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
Our decision to support this particular charity is in recognition of the help and support that they have given to a valued member of our team. Without the help and advice of Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Sam probably wouldn’t be working with AJR Management today!
Sam’s Story
20th June 2007 was the day that my life changed … the day that I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I had started to feel ill about 18 months earlier, suffering with a lot of mouth ulcers and stomach problems and a number of visits to the doctor hadn’t done much to improve the situation. For about 8 months I’d barely been able to get out of bed and was surviving on a slice of bread a day (most of which would come back up again later on!) I was waiting to go to hospital to have a diagnostic procedure but during one particularly bad spell my mum had finally had enough and insisted we go to the hospital immediately. By this point I was 6 feet tall and weighed only 5½ stone.
I was hospitalised for about a month when I was first diagnosed and for a while I felt ready to give up but with the support and information provided by the Crohn’s and Colitis UK charity I began to realise that my life was not over … yes, I can no longer live my life exactly as I had before but with some adjustments there is still so much that I can do (even though I may have to plan for toilet stops far more than other people!)
I was just short of my 17th birthday and once I got my head around what this diagnosis meant for me, my consultant asked me to talk to other kids who were finding it difficult to come to terms with the same condition and again I was able to go to the charity for help and information to share with them.
A lot of people think that Crohn’s disease is just a dodgy tummy but it is so much more and can result in things like depression and social anxiety, joint pain and general fatigue and having the wealth of information available from the Crohn’s and Colitis UK Charity means that people who have to live with this disease know what to expect and where they can go for help.
The support of this charity at some of the lowest points in my life has helped to make me the positive and happy person that I am today.
So please, ‘dig deep’ and help us raise money and awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis UK!
