Akela's Triple Challenge · 26 April 2020

We are 9th Reigate (Lower Kingswood) Scout Group. As part of the Scout Association, we provide fun challenges and life-changing adventure, preparing young people with #skillsforlife through unique experiences. We are a fully volunteer-led organisation and rely on fundraising to support our work.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am Simon Butler, Akela for the Cub pack at 9th Reigate (Lower Kingswood) Scout group. My wife (Raksha) and I have run Cubs in Lower Kingswood for the last four years and we are proud to provide a varied and exciting range of activities for children in the local area.

We have some amazing volunteers within our Scout Group, but we recently celebrated our 80th anniversary and we operate from an ageing hut, with some of our equipment well past its sell-by-date.

Over five consecutive weekends, spanning April and May this year, I will be competing in three gruelling challenges raising money for the group:

- The London Marathon (26th April 2020): one of the most iconic running races in the world will see me run 26-miles through the streets of London. This is a very special year as London Marathon celebrates its 40th anniversary.

- The Rat Race 'Dirty Weekend' (9th May 2020): billed as the biggest obstacle course race in the world, this weekend involves a 20-mile run over 200+ monster obstacles.

- The London 2 Brighton Challenge (23rd - 24th May 2020): classed as an 'Ultra Challenge' this is a 100km walk/ run from Richmond all the way to Brighton, taking place over a 24-hour period.

Although I have taken part in all of these events on more than one occasion in the past, this will be the first year I have done all three in a row, and all within a period of five consecutive weekends.

With a recommended recovery time of one day for each mile raced, I cannot underestimate how much of a physical and mental challenge this will be for me (edit by Raksha: especially given your advancing years :-)).

Please dig deep to support this fantastic cause so that all the volunteers can continue to provide the best experience of Scouting for our local children.
