“Cake for kidneys”

on 15 February 2022

The NKF is a National charity that provides support and information to patients, families and healthcare professionals affected by kidney disease. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and support kidney patients and their families as well as lobby for renal improvements.

Story

My husband Matt had a rare type of kidney disease called IgA nephropathy. It’s an autoimmune disease that attacks the kidneys. He was lucky enough to discover that his mum was a perfect donor match. Last year she gave him her kidney who we affectionately call Rodney. It has been life changing. She’s an amazing woman.

We are forever grateful for the support and care we’ve received through the NHS and through charity helplines who are there to guide you through dark days.

I love baking. It’s my happy place. I know cake makes my customers happy too so it gives me great pleasure to support the National Kidney Federation through Akey Bakey.

The National Kidney Federation is run by kidney patients for kidney patients. The charity supports two million people with Chronic Kidney Disease and 60,000 patients who have end stage kidney failure. The charity also supports Dialysis and Transplanted patients and their carers. The NKF runs a National Kidney Patients Helpline on 0800 169 0936 offering medical information leaflets, help and advice - with trained staff answering around 200 calls a week.

Thank you for buying cake and in turn supporting the NFK.
