Recent budget cuts by Newcastle City Council have affected the Tyneside Cinema  along with many other local cultural insitutions

This independent cinema now needs funds for renovation work. It may not be up there with curing diseases or helping children and animals but the Tyneside Cinema is a cause that means a lot to me.

If we did not have places like the Tyneside Cinema  then the only films released would be completey dictated by commercial motives. I like superhero movies and animations as much as the next geek but we also need  grown up,intelligent, thoughtful and challenging cinema to keep the medium alive.

The Tyneside Cinema showcases such films, showing wonderful new releases from around the world as well as celebrating and screening classics from the past for new generations to discover.

Without such places where will the work of future great film makers be given a chance to be seen,as they should be, on the big screen?
