Virtual Rugby Stadium Tour 2020

Rugby Stadium Tour 2020 · 1 January 2020
In 2020 Heather and I are determined to keep up our daily steps and lead a bit of a healthier lifestyle. To give us an extra motivation we are going to donate/raise money for charity along the way.
So what’s the plan? Well, over the last decade our teenage son amazingly converted me from a complete football nut into a passionate and committed rugby fan, travelling the country (and beyond) to support Saracens. In that time we have supported them at 31 different venues and enjoyed some quality time and incredible experiences together, so Heather and I thought, wouldn't it be good if we could walk a route the equivalent distance of re-visiting all those venues as a measure of how many steps we jointly do in 2020?
How will it work? Everyday we will record the steps we do in our daily life, add them together and record the distance along our virtual route, using 2,000 steps as the equivalent of a mile.
How far and where? The overall distance of the route is around 3,300 miles, starting in Hemel Hempstead and heading up as far as Edinburgh and Glasgow before crossing the Irish Sea to Dublin and Limerick, into Wales to visit Swansea and Cardiff, and then down across the channel all the way, via Paris, to Toulon in the south of France and then back-up to Hemel, with Saracens' home, Allianz Park as the final stop before home.
To do that requires just over nine miles between us every day of 2020. 10,000 steps (5 miles) each a day is the goal, but we both have full-time jobs so have allowed for a few short days and a bit of wiggle room to achieve our total distance by Christmas 2020.
Fundraising? At each virtual venue reached we will make a small donation to our chosen charity. Whilst doing so we thought it only fair to give you the opportunity to also contribute to our chosen charity, either in support of what we are doing, or just because it is a fantastic and increasingly relevant cause in 2020.
stem4 is a teenage mental health charity aimed at improving teenage mental health by stemming commonly occurring mental health issues at an early stage.
Young people have just as much right to accessing facts about good mental health as they do good physical health, and yet there is a lack of accurate information. Embarrassment or social stigma surrounding mental health issues can so easily lead to confusion with what may be normal development, as opposed to the early development of a mental health issue.
