Story
Alan Jepson served in Derbyshire Constabulary from 1957 until 1987. He sadly but peacefully passed away the 25th of January 2021. In addition to his time in uniform, he had brief spells in CID and Road Traffic. He is particularly remembered for his time as a Sergeant at Chesterfield by his shift, known as section 3, and by the hooligans at the Saltergate football ground; where they used to sing uncomplimentary songs to him as he policed them - frequently arresting or expelling troublemakers.
Many kind words have been sent to Alan's family by cadets that Alan trained during his time as an Inspector within training. It sounds like he was a tough but fair second father to them. In fact, the phrase "tough but fair" has been used a lot to describe Alan who appeared to have been an influential figure to many Police Officers that served with him.
He also inspired his family, with his son serving 30 years within South Yorkshire Police and his grandson in his 11th year of Police service.
As head, and much loved member of such a Police family, and as a much respected and influential figure of the wider Police family; Alan's family decided to honour his passing by seeking to support other Police families in their time of need. Hence, their support for the Care of Police Survivors.
