RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As one of the Volunteer Search & Rescue Navigators and Volunteer lifeboat press officer on Newhaven lifeboat I really appreciate first-hand what a difference the RNLI make, often averting tragedy in the most difficult conditions.

This challenge is about helping the RNLI raise funds to enable their volunteers to operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It’s also for most of us a personal tribute to Gavin Butcher, a volunteer crew member and close friend on the Newhaven lifeboat who lost his battle with cancer in late February 2013.

I am the oldest member of the team, so have much work to do to keep up with the fit young guys. Bring it on I say!
