A Marathon for Muscles - Muscular Dystrophy UK

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting this page.
This is my story about how I'm going to help Somhairle and others by raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK towards very valuable research.
I will be competing in the 2023 London Marathon for 'Team Orange' to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK and 'Muscle in with Somhairle' Pronounced Sorley, my Nephew lives near Stirling in Scotland and was cruelly diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy just over two years ago. Last year a group of friends did the Three Peaks Challenge but now a new challenge is needed.
I had practically given up on running after in my younger days being a half decent club runner with Wirral A.C but this year I worked down at the London marathon with some running friends and apart from having a very enjoyable weekend saw the enormity of good that this race does for numerous charities around the world.
Soon after arriving home I applied for a place to run with MDUK and was successful. So the hard work begins now!!! I've never felt that I wanted to run a marathon despite years of running and club mates will laugh when they hear I'm training for one due to my lack of mileage and commitment to running over the years but this has focused me and I don't intend to let Somhairle down.
I've even changed the colour of my watch strap to orange so every time I glance down to check my mile times whilst out on the road I am reminded why I'm doing this - For MDUK's Team Orange.
Thanks for reading and I hope you will donate anything you can to sponsor me no matter how small.
Cheers, Alan
