London to Amsterdam Cycle with Discover Adventure 2019 · 17 September 2019 to 22 September 2019 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

As many of you may know, our dad - Alan - suffered a stroke nearly 13 years ago, which led to severe disabilities restricting his mobility, speech and vision.

Since the stroke, he was house bound and dependant on his family to care for him.

Sadly, Alan peacefully passed away on 6 February 2019 and after all these years as his carer I now have time on my hands; an opportunity has arisen to help raise funds for the Stroke Association which will also help me adjust and fill a considerable void in my life following dad’s passing.

The London to Amsterdam cycle challenge, being 350 miles over 4 days, provides a fantastic opportunity to train hard to achieve the team’s objective of raising funds for the Stroke Association, in dad’s memory, so that the charity can continue to support stroke victims and their families through the difficult times.

Discussing the challenge with Alan Jnr and two close friends, Dave and Wayne, who also both knew Alan and what the family had been through over the last 13 years, the interest was there and soon after, Team Alan Yates Snr. was entered.

Family, friends and associates of Alan Snr, the Team Members and the Stroke Association, we ask you kindly to consider what Alan meant to you, or what experience you may have had with stroke victims. We hope that you find this cause worthy and will find it within your heart to donate to this worthwhile charity and help us reach our target of £8,000 in memory of Alan.

Many thanks

Paul, Alan, Dave and Wayne
