In 2011 our amazing first born son Luka arrived. However unfortunately the birth wasn't as simple as we had hoped.
During the pregnancy Louise was diagnosed with diabetes, however that was by no means the hardest part. All seemed well, Luka was born, I went home a happy daddy. However the next day I arrived back at the hospital to learn that Louise had become unwell, over the next 24 hours things turned worse. Louise was admitted to intensive care due to her liver, and kidneys failing, her blood platlets disappearing and fighting for her life. She was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome a severe form of pre-eclampsia, I was taken outside and told about the severity of the illness.
Thankfully over the next 48 hours Louise fought hard and recovered,Luka and Louise are now doing great and we have an amazing second son Oskar now.
I want to run this race for APEC to help raise awareness for this illness. There were times that our GP and hospital staff could have spotted the signs, but unfortunately they were missed, that being said the staff were amazing, but not many people have heard of HELLP syndrome and I hope that this will help to raise awareness.
