Story
Alan Molloy
Adored Husband, Dad, Grandad, Brother & Friend.
We will lay Dad to rest on Tuesday 2nd June, but unfortunately due to the current restrictions he won’t get the send off that he deserves, with only 10 people allowed to attend.
Please raise a glass to him for us on 2nd June; a pint of Guinness, an Irish whiskey or a glass of port 💛 so that you are there with us in spirit.
We have set up this page to raise money in his memory for Cancer Research. I have written a little about his battle below:
Dad had a lot of pain in his back in September 2018, normally super fit, a marathon runner in his younger years and still doing 13 mile bike rides and gardening for others at that stage.
After weeks of pain and ending up in A&E after getting nowhere with the doctors and collapsing, we were told on 20th October 2018 that he was terminally ill with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, widespread through his spine, ribs and pelvis.
It came out of nowhere and broke our world apart. It broke my heart and from that day until now we have had a horrifying rollercoaster of a ride.
Dad was given days/weeks to live just before Christmas 2018 and we nearly lost him on Christmas Eve that year. Dad pulled through. He shocked all of the doctors and it was an infection that had almost killed him. During those months the pain that he had to endure was out of this world. I have never witnessed anything like it and I will never forget it.
Since leaving hospital in early 2019, Dad has been an absolute soldier. He has fought the cancer, they finally got the pain under control and he built his strength and weight back up, began to walk again and spent a lot of special times with Mum, family and friends. We took a holiday to Cornwall in September and we had the most perfect Christmas 2019 with all of our family together.
On 3rd April 2020, Dad was admitted to Velindre when some tumours in his spine compressed his spinal cord. He spent a week there where we could only see him through the window due to corona virus. He came home on 9th April to be cared for at home. They told us what was likely to happen from there.
On 7th May 2020 at 11:30pm, Dad passed away at the Royal Gwent Hospital with me & Mum holding his hands. Philip close by but not allowed in, Daniel in San Diego.
Dad has been through a brutal battle and he had had enough mentally.
Dad is and always will be the strongest, most caring, kind, funny, selfless, intelligent, wonderful man. And the perfect role model.
We will all miss and love you forever Dad. X
