City to Sea Marathon · 3 September 2016

Richard's Wish is set up in memory of Richard Cridge. Our aim is to raise the much needed funds to provide a child, teenager or young adult undergoing treatment for cancer with a wish. This wish can be anything they want and Richard's Wish will do their absolute best to make this wish come true.

Story

We have decided to run this year's City to the Sea marathon which is a challenging route from Exeter Quayside to Babbacombe Downs . It's a total of 26.52 miles (as if a normal 26.2 marathon isn't hard enough!) and takes in riverside paths, country lanes, woodlands, stunning cliff tops, beaches and harbours., and includes a 1000 foot ascent over the final 6.6 miles!

There is a reason for this foolhardiness, as we shall be hoping to raise a little money as we go for the fantastic Richard's Wish charity http://www.richardswish.co.uk/ who raise much needed funds to provide a child, teenager or young adult undergoing treatment for cancer with a wish.

They were instrumental in helping out when James' son Leo was diagnosed in 2014 with a rare and aggressive cancer called Embryonal
rhabdomyosarcoma in his bladder, and needed proton therapy in America. You can read all about Leo's brave battle at http://www.handsonforleo.com/
and Leo himself has promised to be there to cheer us on at the finish.

Although we are both now 42 years old, carrying a little extra timber these days, and have more injuries between us than the average episode of Game of Thrones, our efforts are minimal when compared with the endeavours of the kind people who work for this charity… and they completely pale into insignificance next to the pain and suffering that the children that Richard's Wish helps have to endure.
