Story

The Pavitt family are very close to our hearts. We know them for many years and Ben and Charlie celebrated a few birthdays together. Last year we lost Ben to cancer and shortly after my dad to dementia. I have been in two minds to raise money for childhood cancer or dementia. Being a dad myself, I decided on childhood cancer research.

So I am not a runner, but I am not a quitter. So looked for the hardest challenge I can find to honour Ben's memory that I can achieve by not running. Googled it and it is climbing the highest mountain in Germany, The Zugspitze at 2962m via the classic route through the Rheintal. I have been training for a while, even before Ben or my Dad passed, looking for my next challenge, but has been ramped up since. My family agreed to no more Sunday lunches as that is extreme training day, apart from the rest during the week.

I shall be leaving for Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the 7th of September. On the 8th I shall be doing some altitude hiking. On the 9th at 09:30 will be setting off up the mountain and spending the night up there on the 9th, hopefully summiting on the 10th.

I am no mountaineer, never climbed a mountain, but I have tested myself in many other extreme environments, like being a soldier, bob-sleigh pilot and a Yactmaster Ocean, so I will not embarass Ben, by quitting.

Please donate freely. All money goes to Childhood Cancer Research and the expedition is completely funded by me.
