Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Alder King's JustGiving page.

Motor Neurone Disease is a particularly despicable disease that has touched the lives of a number of the team at Alder King.

We are delighted to be trying to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause during 2019.

Our main team event of the year will be the Bournemouth Pier to Pier swimming event which will be held on 13th July 2019.

The event consists of the following:

  • A challenging 1.4 mile open water swim between the piers in Bournemouth.
  • A sunset swimming time.
  • Approximately 1,500 swimmers in the water at the start and hopefully out of the water at the finish.

Alder King's Fleet comprises a team of 20 people who are a mixture of experienced and novice swimmers.

The team consists of the following: Alan Morrish, Emma Foster, James Redman, David Harrison, Nathan Clark, Andrew Watson, Rebecca Harries, Sarah Stones, Adrian Goscombe, Elaine Summers, Matthew Halstead, Simon Smith, Simon Phillips, Chris Quaile, Sarah Iserman, Ellie Wynn, Jonathan Rodaway, Oliver Walker-Savings, Joanne Springfield and Simon Price.

The 16 May saw the first of a series of open water training sessions for the intrepid participants. There were some nerves and excitement about getting into the open water, but everyone is improving with the experience gained. Photos are below.

It is now only just over a week to go before the big event. The fleet has been taking training seriously, with 100's of KMs racked up at various open water locations including Woolacombe, Bournemouth, Lyme Regis, Newquay, Swanage, Torquay, Bradley Stoke & Cromhall Quarry.

Expected swim times have shortened, and neoprene, glide, rotation, catch/pull/push and fogging have become part of everyday language here at Alder King.

Next week sees the final group training session at Clevedon Marine Lake.
