Story
Since she was just 3 months old, my daughter, Harlan (now nearly 2), and I have been volunteering for Norwich charity Friend in Deed, whose mission is to promote kindness and reduce loneliness through intergenerational friendships and activities. Harlan's a Little Visitor, which means we regularly visit Thomas Tawell House, a care home for older people with visual impairments.
We love all the residents there, but we've struck up a particular friendship with 93-year-old Margaret, who moved in shortly after we started visiting. I always have a good chat with her, and Harlan loves riding on Margaret's trolley as we accompany her to lunch.
Friend in Deed, like other charities, has been hit hard by COVID-19. We'd like to raise a bit of money for them by making fools of ourselves - ie, dancing to 26 songs and filming each one. To top it all off, Harlan's a bit shy when it comes to social media, so we're going to have to get creative with the videos. Luckily, one of her favourite things is dancing with a bucket on her head.
The dancing starts on Sunday 26 April and finishes Sunday 3 May, and you can donate any time in that period.
Come on. You know you want to.

Save the UK's Charities
General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
