Story
On Saturday 16th July 2022 I will be taking part in an organised swim with 5 or 6 other swimmers back from the Rampion Wind Farm off the Sussex coast, back to the shoreline landing somewhere along the coast close to Brighton.
The distance is 15-16 kilometres, but we will actually be covering a greater distance due to the lateral tidal currents. The swim should take me between 5 and 6 hours and I will be swimming in the 'Bioprene' that nature gave me.
I am a long-term member of Brighton Swimming club and a seasoned sea swimmer, having taken part in a a couple of successful English Channel crossings, and a 'Swim to Bestival' from Gosport to Ride, but the furthest distance I have ever swum in the Sea was 10 Kilometres as part of the 'Paddle Round the Pier' event.
Having been really busy recently performing at events, I've had little time to train, but I have a fair bit of experience with endurance events and I am a stubborn old bull. I'm confident that I have the fitness, tenacity and grit needed to complete this challenge. Plus we have the required rocket fuel on board the support boat. The weather forecast is looking most favourable this weekend, so we also have that on our side.
After 6 hours swimming in that sunshine, I’ll no doubt develop a tan that can only be rivalled by the BBC’s very own Mr. David Dickinson.
