Thank you to all my Edinburgh Half Marathon sponsors so far. Having raised over £100, today is the last day I'll be shaving my upper lip until the half marathon in May.

I'm doing this to highlight the work that goes on behind the scenes at Ardgowan Hospice, namely the men's group, a weekly get together to support men in Inverclyde with potentially life-limiting illness. The group allows the men to share their support for each other and also access support from Doctors and Nurses at Ardgowan Hospice.

I also need to watch the empty calories as, in a moment of madness, last year I signed up to run the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2019.  I hate running and I'm going to have to train for hours to be able to finish this.

But that's why I signed up; because I need a challenge and this will be tough.  Although nothing like as tough as the things the patients at Ardgowan Hospice are dealing with.  I'm running the half marathon to raise money for patients with life-limiting illness and their families.

Here's a brief guide to what your sponsorship could fund:

£15 could fund a session for a bereaved child or young person with our family support team, helping them come to terms with the loss of a loved one

£25 can help a patient to relax, reduce their anxiety and ease their breathlessness as a result of an hour's complementary therapy session

£50 could fund a visit from an Ardgowan Hospice Community Nurse, giving a patient the dignity of receiving receive practical, physical or emotional support in the comfort of their own home
