PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. We run HOPELINE247 0800 068 4141 a freephone confidential helpline staffed by trained professionals who give advice, support & information to anyone who is feeling suicidal, or concerned that a young person they know may be at risk

Story

I have chosen to abseil from Liverpool Cathedral in aid of PAPYRUS- the national Charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, in 2018 over 1800 young people took their own lives.

PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through their helpline, HOPELINEUK. Every £5 raised can help pay for a life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK.

For this event I will be raising money in memory of Katy, my best friend who I sadly lost in December 2020. Katy was the most funny, outgoing and thoughtful friend. Katy was a law student at the University of Sheffield when we met in our part time jobs at 18. She was an extremely hard worker and achieved anything she put her mind to, while still socialising and partying in her free time… we loved a good dance.

Katy and I grew into young women together. Katy not only spent the good times with me but she also supported me through tough periods in my life. She said to me many times how proud she was of me for how far I’d come in the time she knew me. I would really like to keep making her proud by supporting a charity in her name, to help prevent the loss of more young people to suicide. Your donations really are lifesaving, thank you.
