Story

Hidden in the crinkled jagged folds of this small kingdom lie 3 peaks. These peaks are not big, they are not mountains by the lofty standards of our lesser European friends, they do not rise to touch the heavens, but they peek commandingly above this fine and gentle land. Ben Nevis to the North, Snowdonia to the South, and Scafell Pike hunkered in between.

For years people have driven their automobiles, from Scotland down to Wales, attempting to trudge up each one in less than 24 hrs and driving between the peaks.

So, in the name of charity and terrible ideas we shall do it on bicycles!

In May, around the weekend of the 22nd, we (Angus and Alex) will attempt to run up all three peaks, and cycle between them in one single push. The total distance on foot is about 42km, and about 710km on bike. Estimated time depends on how may tantrums are thrown along the way. The current group record stands at 42 hours 55 set back in 2015. We will be attempting to break this time.

Why do this? Because not many people have, its a pretty amazing challenge through some of the most amazing scenery in the UK, and we get to raise money for some incredible causes along the way.

The two charities we are fund raising for are MNDA and Little Havens. I (Alex) have personal connections to both, and both are amazing and truly worthwhile causes.

MNDA is the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and they raise money to research and combat the disease, whilst providing support and care to those and their families who suffer from it.

Little Havens is a hospice that provides respite and support for children with terminal conditions. The work they do is incredible and provides those children and their families with the help and care that they need.

Update: In memory of David Benson, we will also be raising money for Friends of Ruskin Park, a charity Dave was a trustee and involved with.

So I hope you agree that the charities are worthwhile ones, and that the challenge is stupid enough, so please do give generously. Every pound donated goes a long way to ensuring we suffer as much as possible as we attempt the Three Peaks by bicycle!

Finally, please can you try to keep the donations to each charity equal!

About the charity

We’re a volunteer-run charity which works to ensure Ruskin Park is well cared for and maintained, and has a planned and healthy future. Since 1996 we’ve raised money to help maintain and improve the park, preserving it for future generations. We also organise and support a regular programme of events and activities. We work closely with Lambeth Council and others with an interest in the park.
