Story
On 30th April 2014 we are going to be walking the West Highland Way which is best described as Scotland’s finest long distance walk. The West Highland Way runs 96 miles (154 km) from Milngavie, just outside Glasgow, to Fort William.
We will be raising money in the memory of parents, family and friends that we have both lost to cancer.
Message from Richard: Last year my family lost three people at the hands of cancer which included my Dad, Jim, aged 64. Watching cancer debilitate and take away the quality of life from someone you love is not something you want other people to have to experience. Choosing a charity that can make a real difference to people in that situation was very important to me and while I know you will have many requests for charity at this time of year, if you can find it to support The YJS Trust your donation in support of our walk will make a huge difference to patients and their families at an incredibly challenging time. Thank you for your support!
Message From Alex: My Mum died of Lung cancer in 2003 aged 56 despite being a non smoker. In fact many patients that die of lung cancer are non smokers but government policy has focused on anti smoking measures. A stigma remains that those that die of lung cancer have bought it on themselves by smoking and therefore deserve to die. We know this not to be true.
The YJS Trust is a charitable trust Alex helped set up with his
family and friends in memory of his mother after she died of cancer in
2003. Over the last 11 years they have raised lots of money for good causes and currently focus on cancer patient care. They have donated to and continue to support the complementary Cancer treatment center run by the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity. Before Helen died in 1999 she said "Good quality of life while dealing with cancer is the greatest gift
a patient can receive and it should be available to all." This simple but powerful belief is at the heart of everything we want to achieve at the YJS Trust and we will continue to support good causes that comply with that message.
Your Donations have helped, they are helping and they will continue to help people cope wit h cancer www.yjstrust.com
The challenge is to walk 96 miles along the West Highland way in 5 days (most people do it in 7 days). We have funded the cost of the trip ourselves so ALL of the money you donate will go directly to the charities (and if you click the gift aid option they get even more!)
When I wake up, well, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out, yeah, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk, well, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver, hey, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you
But I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door
Okay... so maybe it is not quite 1000 miles but thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
