99 Miles in November for Brain Tumour Research 💙
I'm walking 99 miles this November for my uncle and everyone affected by brain tumours.
In May, mine and my family’s world changed when my uncle was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer at just age 54.
My uncle isn't just my uncle; he's my best friend. He was fit, healthy and active, playing sports and riding his bike every week. He was living his life as he always had, and none of us could have imagined what was about to happen.
Everything has happened so quickly. It's hard to understand how someone who was so active and full of life can suddenly be facing something so devastating. In such a short space of time, our family has gone from everyday life to facing the heartbreaking reality of my uncle now receiving palliative care.
Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. It can progress rapidly, and despite treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, there is currently no cure. The average survival time is around 12–18 months, although every person's journey is different.
Watching my uncle go through this is something I wish no family ever had to experience which is why this November, I'm taking on the challenge of walking 99 miles to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.
I'm doing this for him. For the time we have together. For my family. And for every person and family whose lives have been turned upside down by a brain tumour diagnosis.
I want to help raise awareness of this devastating disease, support the vital work of Brain Tumour Research, and contribute towards research that could lead to better treatments and, one day, a cure.
Ninety-nine miles is going to be a challenge especially in the cold wet days of November, but it's nothing compared to what my uncle and so many other families are facing.
If you can spare anything at all, every donation will mean so much to me. If you can't donate, sharing my fundraiser and helping spread awareness would mean just as much. Or if you fancy, join me for a walk and help me get those miles in!
I'm walking 99 miles for my best friend. For more research, more hope, more time, and for a future where fewer families have to hear the words "you have a brain tumour."
This one's for you, Uncle David. Every single mile❤️
