Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

This year I have decided to take on a new cycle challenge to raise money for Parkinson's UK. Instead of just asking for people to sponsor the ride, I am also organising a charity pub quiz game show in Haringey on Fri 24th March.

The ride:

"Further Pyrenees" (also called Further Perseverance) is a 4-day mixed surface self-supported cycle race in the Pyrenees Mountains which involves a lot of hike-a-bike-ing.

It's a different type of event. It is the personal project one person called Camille. It is a low key and personal project that he wishes to share with like minded people. Further was and will always be, part of Camille's Fine Art practice.

And that mean's details of the event are currently very limited but.... from what I can find by scrolling through previous competitor's Strava profiles it looks something like the below:

Distance: TBC but approx 500km

Elevation: TBC but … approx 15,000m (as a comparison, Everest is 8,849m 🤔)

The cause:

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. Around 145,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK and it's the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.

This is a cause that is particularly close to my heart after seeing the devastating impact of the disorder on multiple family members. The physical and mental effects of this condition vary considerably and, in my experience, are often misunderstood. By taking on this challenge, I hope to be able to raise awareness about the condition and bring forward the day when no one should fear Parkinson's.

Despite undertaking over 50 years of research, there is still no known cure. Parkinson’s UK fund research projects that get us closer to the cure every day. By supporting this cycle ride, you can help Parkinson's UK find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.
