Story
Towards the end of 2016 our Nan was diagnosed with Cancer in her Brain, liver and kidneys - we knew it was terminal. She battled to keep going for as long as she could, during this time she would spend one day every week at Rowan's Hospice. If you knew Nan, you'll have heard many, many times just how much this day meant to her and how much she looked forward to them. They would paint her nails, style her hair, allow her to enjoy a three course meal and glass of wine.... all funded by charities and carried out by volunteers. I really believe that this place gave her a little bit of life in her last year and allowed her to cling on to a little bit of independence away from her family.
Sadly, after around 18 months of battling, my Nan just had nothing left to give. She passed away peacefully at the Queen Alexandra Hospital on Monday 2nd April. She wasn't in any pain, she had just had enough - rightfully so! She said all of her goodbyes and was at peace with what was to come.
We would love to be able to raise money for this amazing charity so that they can carry on providing such wonderful care and respite for families. The Big Fun Run is being held on Nan's 82nd birthday, and therefore feels very appropriate that we will take part and raise money for something so close to her heart. I know she would have been there to support us if she could, and I think she'll be watching over from somewhere.
