I am walking 100km, correction 100 miles, in March to raise funds to help fight loneliness.

I have been training over the last few weeks, increasing little by little the distance covered each day.  I wish to thank my friend Lauren for her expertise and wonderful encouragement.

As I walk, I try to catch the first signs of spring, to pick up the scents of blooming flowers, to listen to the stirrings of the local wildlife.  My heart connects with loved ones and with those who are no longer in my life. My mother, who passed away in October 2019, loved long walks in nature.

A quarter of older people in Hammersmith & Fulham live in poverty and over 58% have a long-term health problem or disability. This is where Age UK H&F comes in. Trained volunteers provide vulnerable, hard-to-reach older people with emotional, practical and social support.

With the arrival of Covid-19, Age UK H&F provided a swift and effective response as acute needs for its services skyrocketed across the borough.  Among other initiatives, the charity put in place its Isolation Buddy Service and its 5-day a week Meal Delivery Service.  It also saw huge increases in demand for its Digital Inclusion Project, which provides bespoke training to reduce digital exclusion.
