I've decided to join in Derby Churches Nightshelter fundraising sleep out. I have slept under the stars before, but on a remote mountainside in the middle of summer in a country much warmer than ours. This is going to be a big challenge but one that many people of Derby (and other cities) face every night. I could also mention the massive cuts that the City Council have made in this area over the last few years and the way the number of homeless people on our city streets has risen. Please don't jump to the conclusion that these folk are there out of choice. The Nightshelter also provides services during the day for the visitors to get support in getting off the streets and into accommodation and employment. It is a very successful project.
