The Gurkha Welfare Trust is the leading Gurkha charity. We provide financial, medical and community aid to relieve poverty and distress among retired Gurkha soldiers, their families and their wider communities.

Story

I am serving In The Royal Gurkha Rifles, based in the UK. I was fortunate enough to complete a 3 month language course in Nepal in 2016. At the end of my studies - along with a group of other Officers from the Brigade of Gurkhas - I completed the famous Doko Race and Annapurna Ultra Marathon back-to-back in two days, raising over £4000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust in the process. This money paid for the reconstruction of two houses in Gorkha, the spiritual home of the Gurkhas and the epicentre of 2015’s devastating earthquake. I also had the opportunity to complete a week-long attachment at an Area Welfare Centre and a two week trek to visit welfare pensioners in Western Nepal. I am running the London Marathon because I have witnessed first-hand the incredible work undertaken by the GWT in the remotest parts of Nepal and want to continue to support their efforts.
