In December 2022, my son Alfie's world changed forever. He was diagnosed with a number of conditions which he'd lived with undetected for his first 9 years. Staff at Alder Hey diagnosed and treated Alfie, including many scans and surgery to correct some of his issues. The surgery was successful (and he will require more), but Alfie has been left with irreversible bladder and kidney damage which will need regular monitoring and management throughout his life.

Alfie has handled all of his recent challenges extremely bravely, and has a deep love for staff at Alder Hey who have cared for him during his many visits. Alder Hey remains a place where Alfie feels safe & secure, and he knows he'll be well looked after on the times he has to visit in the future. 

We'd like to support Alfie in his charity walk, and give something back to the extremely worthwhile Alder Hey Children's Charity. On 14th May, along with Oli and hundreds of other children, Alfie will walk 3k around Knowsley Safari Park.

To date, the charity has raised over £65m which has helped to fund life-saving equipment, vital research and healthcare innovation. It also ensures that every child and young person experiences "Alder Hey magic" – those little added extras that make the hospital experience the best it can be for patients and their families.

From ward musicians and comics and art workshops to the latest distraction technology, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital strives to provide the best patient experience possible. Alder Hey Children's Charity is committed to funding these projects, technologies and experiences that go above and beyond what is available on our NHS.
