We've been running residential summer holidays for children and young adults with learning disabilities for nearly 40 years. We're run and staffed by volunteers and we rely on donations to make our holidays happen each year. For more info, please visit oundlemencap.co.uk. Thanks for your support!

Story

From 30 June - 21 July 2014 I will be cycling over 1,000 miles around some of the UK’s larger islands - Wight, Alderney, Man, Arran, Kintyre, Mull, Skye and the Outer Hebrides, to raise money for Oundle School Mencap Holidays (OSMH).

You can sign up for updates on my progress via the OSMH blog page: http://www.oundlemencap.co.uk/blog/  and you can see the full blog and large photos at http://www.oo-mag.co.uk/AlGordon/AlGordon.php

OSMH began in Oundle over 30 years ago and now offers 40 children and 20 young adults with learning disabilities a fun and stimulating summer holiday.  In summer 2013, as President of the Old Oundelian Club, I had the humbling honour to participate in one of the late afternoon and evening activities of OSMH. It was a combination of vast enthusiasm on the part of the children, the Old Oundelians (some of whom have been coming back for over 20 years since first volunteering) and Sixth Formers, emotional energy, instant bonding and friendships. It's a great example of Oundelians and OOs doing what they do best – no airs or graces, just getting stuck in and giving back to the community.

Through my cycle ride I want to raise £20,000 which is what the charity needs to find every year to keep the holidays running.  I am covering all the costs of the trip myself, so all funds donated will go straight to OSMH.  All being well, the last day of my trip will see me cycling into Oundle during the Mencap Week itself to see the holiday in action once more.

Please support me generously and help Oundle Mencap continue its excellent work.  Thank you very much!
