Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you). Welcome to Masjid Alhikmah, a new family friendly Masjid and Community Centre being built here in Aberdeen to serve the community.

Story

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh!

- Peace, mercy and blessings of God upon you!

Some introductions - Alhikmah Friends (Athif, Mo, Din, Qasim, Salih and Sami) is a group of friends who have taken it upon themselves to raise money for Masjid Alhikmah. An initial target of £3000 was set which will go towards supporting the construction of the first purpose built mosque in Aberdeen – ‘Masjid Alhikmah and Community Centre.

Why is this neeeded?

Currently the facilities available in this city are not able to accommodate the needs of the community. With really only one mosque in the city it has always been a struggle, but even more so now as the muslim community continues to grow. Halls are rented to house alternative Jumaah prayers and hospital medics have been able to secure a prayer room which they also use to hold their Friday prayers. Nevertheless, despite these efforts women are still unable to attend Jumaah due to lack of space and even for the men attending there is always a need for people to setup prayer mats and pray outside in the concrete bearing the brunt of Aberdeen weather.

The Masjid Alhikmah project was initiated in the hopes of alleviating some of these adverse conditions.

What will it do?

As a multi-purpose community centre the mosque has many benefits:

Firstly with a total area of 1025mover several floors the community centre is able to accommodate approximately 1100 individuals with a dedicated women's section able to house 300 people.

The multi-purpose mosque will include the following facilities:

·    A variety of classrooms, a meeting room and kitchenette - will provide ample area for social functions for women, children and men.

·    A dedicated men’s section - will comprise a prayer hall, state of the art wudu units and toilets.

·    The dedicated women’s section -will comprise a prayer hall on the first floor accessed by stairs and a lift, state of the art wudu units, toilets, a creche, kitchenette and meeting room.

·    A funeral preparation facility (a maghsal) - will be available for the needs of the community.

The total project costs come to around £1.7 million with about £1 million having already been raised through various fundraising activities from the local community. At this point in time Phase1 of construction is near completion and the project is about to move on to the second stage - Internal fit-out.

Building a mosque is an opportunity to earn an immense reward. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him likewise in Paradise.”(Bukhari and Muslim)

Signing off with this one hadith,

“The Muslims, in their mutual love, kindness and compassion are like the human body: when one of its parts is in agony, the entire body feels the pain, both in sleeplessness and fever”.(Bukhari and Muslim)

Donate what you can in shaa Allah and spread the word!

After all, the one who guides to a good deed gets the reward of the doer!

May Allah grant you all entry to Jannatul Firdaws and reward you immensely for your efforts.

Jazakumullahu Khaira,

Athif, Din, Mo, Qasim, Salih and Sami
