Story

FUNDS RAISED ... WHATS HAPPENING.

We worked out with MGR charity that we can afford to open 1 pharmacy, and 2 full size water wells pumping fresh water day in day out for crops and human consumption. These are items which are ideal for long term usage rather thana quick fix. We hope everyone is happy with the choice.

WHAT HAPPENED ...... ON THE DAY

For some silly reason I got up at 5am. Pottered round the house, had some tea, a banana and then cannot quite remember what I did till 10am. Eventually got up showered dressed and was unusually calm before an event, even if it was the longest and toughest covered.

Finally met up with the rest of the merry followers at 11:00 hoping for a 12:00 start.

We took some starters photos and final preparations where the plan was I would follow the cars on the route. They set off some 10 minutes before me to allow them time to get to the first parade of shops to do their begging, or bidding, and did they look smart all in red, of course.

I managed to get 5km into the route before realizing I had lost them!  They were still collecting funds and it was going well as they kept in touch with me by phone.

And this is how it went cat and mouse, due to the success of the fund raising I could not get anymore ahead. We travelled from Chislehurst, Eltham, Blackfen, Welling, Plumstead, Woolwich, Greenwich, Deptford, Bermondsey, Mile End, Whitechapel, Tower Bridge, The City of London ending at Judd Street nr Euston Station. Total time 6 hours, actual bike time 2:10 the rest of the time I was mainly freezing due to stops and the wind.

Got changed into running shoes and left bike at Judd Street in offices. Set off at 18:31 in sight of Ilford Essex. This went much smoother as I could not keep up with the cars as they continued fund raising.  Managed to do this section without stopping. The last couple of miles were difficult, dark, and boring. And at one point not sure if I was going to make it, until I got some help with 2 other runners to help me along for the final mile or so. We made it by 9:02 total running 2:31 hours.

The next day I was a little stiff in the muscles but recovered fine. Thanks to my helpers we collected several hundred pounds on the day from Newsagents, Estate Agents, Kebab Shops etc etc so thanks to the donors who helped.

WE ARE ALREADY PLANNING A KENT TO BIRMINGHAM BIKE RIDE EXACTLY 100 MILES, FOLLOWED BY A FULL MARATHON OF 26.1 MILES. THIS WILL BE NEXT YEAR AROUND JULY TIME. WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED.

I really did nothing, the sufferers are the victims of natural disasters all round the world, and I know charity appeals can sometimes become tiring, but if we forget our fellow human beings well …. Are we human beings?

Thanks Everyone… The crew.

DEAR FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND COLLEAGUES.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page. Our aim is to raise as much as possible for the Pakistan Flood Victims. The initial effects of the floods have been devastating, the aftermath will be even worse when people are left desolate with no food, clean water or livelihood. "Up to 3.5 million children are at high risk of deadly water-borne diseases, such as watery diarrhoea and dysentery". Your generosity will ensure the safe rehabilitation of these children and their displaced families, as it will provide them with necessities such as clean water, food and much needed medical attention.

THE CHALLENGE.

Complete the distance without stopping except obligatory traffic observations,  any bike problems punctures etc and in about 4.5 hours.

BIKE  50Km (31miles)  ....... then immediately

RUN   25Km (15.5miles)

Please take a look at the photo maps for a guide to the routes which may change depending on weather or traffic conditions. My supportive back-up team will make certain that I am provided with all requirements on route, for which I am hugely thankful. They will also be collecting donations by bucket from local businesses and the public on route before I come through each section.

TRAINING: Painful and as yet not even up to 2/3rds of the distance!  I am sure the excitement and money resting on the cause will see me through on the day.

Hopefully if I survive the challenge below as in just over a year I will be 50 years old and aches and pains are now catching up!  next year I will be supporting a UK charity such a Cancer Relief to raise similar.

                                                                            ********  THE TEAM  ********

The team on the day will also be walking a fair distance taking donations by bucket, so please a big thank you to them all.

Your details are safe with JustGiving. Once you donate, they will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Therefore, it is the most efficient way to donate. You can also call us directly on the numbers above and just make personal pledge.

The chosen charity is MUSLIM GLOBAL RELIEF, a UK based organisation involved in overcoming disasters and human suffering worldwide. Suggestions on how to implement funds raised in the most effective manner are welcome.

We will ENSURE funds get to the right people who need it and not the corrupt government syphoning the funds like leeches ....

THANK YOU EVERYONE .... REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.

Thanks to KOSAR, ZAID, NATASHA, ZAINAB, MISBAH, SAIMA, SAARAH, ADIL, IMAN, ARSALAN, SOHAIL

We will publish the final route a week before the event and welcome anyone else wanting to join us on route, the more the merrier, I may even survive with a little moral support along the way.
