Being diagnosed with a terminal illness can turn your world upside down. We're here to help people make the most of the time they have left, and provide expert care so that they can die with dignity. Your donation today will help us to be here for people in East London when they need us.

Story

I first became aware of the fantastic work of hospices when my lovely mum, Alexes, received outreach services during her long battle with a brain tumour.  My father also had cancer and hospice nurses came to our house to provide care and support.  In January of 2019, two good friends, Terence and John both received care at St. Joseph's Hospice in Hackney.  Terence was at the hospice for three weeks and I was able to see at first hand the fantastic care he received as well the support given to his family and friends during difficult times. We feel the loss of our loved one's keenly and hope through this to support the ongoing work of the hospice. One day I decided it might be quicker to walk six miles to the hospice rather than wait for the 106, and here I am just a short while later...with only another 7.1 miles to go...Sail On...

St Joseph’s Hospice opened in Hackney in 1905, and since then has been caring for and supporting people affected by serious illness in eight London boroughs. We work to improve the quality of life of more than 2,100 patients with life-limiting conditions each year, helping them live life to the full, to the very last. We have to raise £19,000 each day to keep our vital services running and available to the 2.2 million people in our diverse community, so every penny raised for our hospice is really important, and very much appreciated.
