We support people with aphasia to enable them to re-connect with life.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

This will be first attempt at the London Marathon (and probably my last!) and I hope to run under 4hours. So far training has gone well, although I am fast discovering the benefits of Vaseline!!

I am aiming for an ambitious £2500 in 3 months, but with a small amount from all of you it can be achieved, so please be generous!

Connect is a great charity caring for a group of people who really can benefit from our help. Many of you will be in the medical profession and know about aphasia and how dibilitating it can be. What aphasia sufferers need is time and dedicated help which most of us cannot provide. By sponsoring me however, you help to provide them with lasting support from people who can help them.

There are currently over approximately 250,000 people living with aphasia in the UK alone.

£500 could pay for a person with aphasia to attend counseling sessions.

£1000 could help pay for AV equipment to help run our groups for people with aphasia and our training courses .

£1500 could pay for up to 5 people with aphasia to attend two information days at our London Centre. Our ‘Connect for a Day’ events give people with aphasia the opportunity to meet other people in the same situation and information on new opportunities like volunteering.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Connect - the Communication Disability Network will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

About the charity

Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org
