Event: Menstrual Cycle, from 28 May 2021 to 30 June 2021
Take part in the Menstrual Cycle to raise vital funds so girls don't have to drop out of school when they get their periods.

Story

I'm taking part in this challenge partly to get me back on my beautiful tricycle after a particularly shit few months physically and a long overdue diagnosis of fibromyalgia. This is me saying bollocks to fibromyalgia.

But obviously, it's a really good cause, I wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't! There are children in West Africa (and globally) missing out on their education because they don't have access to period products. The start of a period for girls living in the world's poorest communities can mean dropping out of education completely, leaving them at greater risk of child marriage, early pregnancy and exploitation.

The money I raise will go toward packs that include reusable pads, underwear and soap.

About the charity

Plan International Ireland is a development organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls. Everyday, we ensure that the children who are most marginalised receive the education and essential services they deserve and the protection and care they are too often denied. Your generous donations go to life-saving projects, such as providing clean water supplies and child immunisation, which make an immediate and lasting impact to the world's poorest children. We know that it is impossible for a child to reach their potential unless their community is developing alongside them. Plan International's commitment to each community means that the health, sanitation and education programmes we establish are long-term and sustainable.
