Story
At the beginning of October I will be heading to Malawi with Lattitude ICS to take part in a 10 week volunteer project. I will be based in a small, rural village called Sangilo, 3 hours north of Mzuzu, the project is focused on developing the access and quality of pre-school and primary education for young children.
The community is very poor and mostly without electricity or running water. The small group of both UK and local volunteers that I will be a part of will be using a range of activities to help children gain access to primary education. This will involve supporting teachers as well as supporting the construction of basic amenities such as toilets, sanitation systems and the repair and construction of school blocks.
International Citizen Service (ICS) is a once-in-a-lifetime volunteering opportunity open to all 18 to 25-year-olds, backed by the UK government. It gives young people the chance to work side-by-side with local volunteers in developing countries, to make a meaningful contribution to fighting poverty.
My fundraising target is £800; this money does not go directly to
pay for my placement or for my flights, visas or vaccinations. It
contributes to the ICS programme so that 7,000 young people from the UK and
overseas can volunteer on projects in the developing world and fight
poverty. I would really appreciate your donations and your support with
fundraising.
